Slumdog Millionaire: The First Film of the Obama Era

HelloI found the following article and its headline on

Slumdog Millionaire: the first film of the Obama era”

Already we are seeing the term “Obama Era” used, and Obama has not even been sworn in as the new American president.

Here is the most telling paragraph of the article to me:

“And in that single word lie the key qualities of Slumdog Millionaire. It does not have an ironic moment. It is utterly devoid of cynicism. Instead, it is bright-eyed, optimistic – idealistic, even. To generations reared on a drip-feed of corrosive cynicism, the elevation of greed for greed’s sake and weary disillusion with our leaders and our institutions it feels almost shocking.”

Interestingly enough, it is a British writer and a British newspaper (the Telegraph) that are using these terms, outsiders looking in.

YES, we are in a new ear, and yes, Obama is our most visible symbol, but we all are invited to join in this new era, to dare to be optimistic, to dare to even be idealsitic, and to dare to change ourselves and thus the world around us.
